As said before, postmodernism is something hard to define and spot. There are several examples of postmodernism and they are: fragmentation, paradox, metanarratives, irony/black humor, and many more. Relating to Slaughterhouse-Five, I did a soundtrack that showed postmodernism within it. My soundtrack shows fragmentation because time leaps from one song to another and while it’s at that, the songs talk about different events My soundtrack includes the songs: War by Edwin Starr, Stuck in Moment by U2, and Freewill by Rush. I chose these songs because these songs symbolizes or are the key events in the novel. The song war is about how war is pointless, there is nothing beautiful about it, and no one wants to die because of a mass destruction, â€Å"What is it good for? Was has caused unrest. The song goes, â€Å"Im not afraid Of anything in this world. Theres nothing you can throw at me. That I havent already heard. Im just trying to find. A decent melody† (U2). This quote from the song means, that because death occurs around the world often, there’s nothing to fear about, and to just find a better way to live life. Following after death, another theme was freewill. Freewill is having your own choice and making your own decisions. In the novel, the Tralfamadorians talk about freewill in which they don’t believe in it. They think that people should live by the moment and let life guide itself. The song relates to freewill because it talks about how people should make their own decisions on believing it or not and beware of the conclusion we make. Throughout the novel and project, it challenged my thinking because I had to think what was postmodernism and what wasn’t because it was hard to spy. Then, I had to challenge myself by trying to find songs that would have the same meaning as the themes in the novel. In addition, with why they were alike and finding examples from both novel and song. This has taught me more than I thought I’d learn and something I enjoy doing.

Egypt bases its criminal codes and courts operations primarily on British, Italian, and Napoleonic models. Criminal court procedures had been substantially modified by heritage of Islamic legal and social patterns and the legacy of numerous kinds of courts that formerly existed. In ancient Egypt, the rulers, called pharaohs, created the laws of the land and enforced them. The pharaohs had strict laws and at times, some very harsh punishments to maintain control over the people. The Egyptians had harsh punishments for breaking the law. The laws were based on common sense view of right and wrong. It depended on which crime the criminal did to figure out which punishment they would receive. Not only would it disgrace them, but it would disgrace their whole family. Now, Egypt uses criminal codes. The criminal codes listed three main categories of crime: minor offenses, misdemeanors, and felonies. Lower courts handled the majority of these cases. Capitol crimes that carried a possible death sentence includes murder, manslaughter, arson or the uses of explosives that caused death, rape, treason, and endangerment of state security. In Egypt few convictions for capital crimes, however, resulted in execution. Egypt laws required that a detained person be brought before a magistrate and formally charged within 48 hours or released. The justice system in the United States is one of the most unique in the world. It consists of two separate levels of courts, state and federal.. Henry felt his investiture of bishops was necessary to the control of his kingdom, so he kept on doing it. Gregory responded to this by excommunicating Henry. Henry later apologized and received the Popes forgiveness. Out of humiliation, he chased Gregory out of Rome and elected a new pope. King Henry II made his close and dear friend Thomas Becket Archbishop of Canterbury in hopes that since he and his friend were so close, Becket would give some power over the Church to Henry. Instead, Becket refused to do Henrys bidding and became a fierce champion of the independence and rights of the church. In 1170, Becket was killed during a church mass by four of Henrys knights. Henry surrendered to the Pope, who threatened him with excommunication. Thomas Becket was later named a saint and is a symbol of the struggle between church and state.
